Announcements


I will be out of town on the first day of class (Tuesday January 16, 2024). We will make up this lecture on Friday January 19 at 3 pm in Room 136 Loomis Lab. . Our first class will be on Thursday January 18, 2024, at 2 pm in Rm 158 Loomis Lab.


Due to bad weather todays' office hours (Monday 1/22/2023) will be on zoom. I sent an email with the zoom link to all registered students. We will use this zoom link when needed (hopefully not very often!).

HW set No. 1 was uploaded on Monday January 22, 2024. It is due on Friday February 9.

I edited a misprint in the last identity in the problem set. The correct version is posted.

We will not have class on Tuesday January 30. Our next lecture will be, as usual, on Thursday February 1 at 2 pm. We will make up the missed lecture on Friday February 2 at 4:00 pm - 5:20 pm in Rm 136 Loomis Lab.

I will be out of town on Monday February 19 and Tuesday February 20. We will make up the Tuesday class on Friday February 16 in Rm 136 Loomis Lab from 4:00 pm to 5:20 pm..

The list of suggested Term Papers will be posted on Friday March 8, 2024.

HW set No. 2 was posted on Sunday February 11, 2024. It is due on Friday March 17, 2024, at 9:00 pm US Central Time.

I will be away during the week of March 4-8, 2024, and we will not have lectures on Tuesday March 5 and Thursday March 7. The TA will also be away on that week. We will have two make up lectures, one on Friday March 1 at 4 pm (in Rm 136 Loomis Lab.) and the other on Friday March 22 (in Rm 136 Loomis Lab.) .

HW set No. 3 was posted on Sunday March 17, 2024. It is due on Friday April 12, 2024, 9:00 pm CDT.

The deadline has been extended to Tuesday April 16, 2024, at 9:00 pm CDT.


The list of topics for the Term Paper was posted on Sunday March 17, 2024. Each student must send me an email a rank-ordered list of his/her preferred {\it three} topics before Friday April 5, 2024.

The Final Exam of Physics 583 will consist of a Term Paper and an Oral presentation. The Term Paper and the PowerPoint file for the Oral Presentation are due on Wednesday May 8, 2024, at 9 pm US CDT (Please note the change of date!) . The Oral Presentations will be in Rm 3110 ESB on Thursday May 9, 2024, from 9:00 am till 12 pm US CDT. I am looking forwards to a fun morning of physics!
